The Perfect Off Season

My partner and I are long-term members of Wyndham Timeshare. We joined about 9 years ago and have had a marvellous time staying in excellent accommodation in every state in Australia and New Zealand. When we joined there were only 3 locations in our own state of Victoria; Torquay, Ballarat and Lakes Entrance. Much to our delight, Wyndham has grown and the new locations both in Australia and internationally are splendid.

Late in October I said to Robert “Look there’s a new Victorian Resort at Dinner Plain in the Alps!” Robert looked at the photos of the beautiful mountain scenery and replied, “Yes but its a ski resort and we are past the age of snow sports.”

“We don’t have to be skiers or even go when the snow covers the Ramada Resort Mount Hotham” I replied. “Let’s go off season. Spring native flowers will be out and we will be surrounded by the National Parks, so there will be plenty of rambles.”

That’s exactly what we did. The Ramada Resort Dinner Plain, Mt Hotham chalets were wonderful with nearly 360 degree views of the Alpine Mountains and brilliant sunsets. Well marked tracks led us to historic cattlemen’s huts and scenic waterfalls, fed by melting snows. A week was not enough but the return to Melbourne via Bright in the Ovens Valley also gave us an off season treat. In Mytleford, the ripe cherries were being harvested and we staggered home with kilos of ridiculously cheap, lush red fruit to give to our city friends.

Staying in a ski resort in summer is perfect – you have to try it!

Short Break in Ballarat

Oh what to do when a couple of Brisbane shift workers have 3 days off together….it’s easy when you’re WorldMark owners! Do a quick search on the website for what’s available on those precious few days and go!

Fly to Melbourne and jump into a hire car.

Drive 1.5 hours and stay in our beautiful Ramada Resort Ballarat.

Walk 7 kms around Lake Wendouree and be a part of the most extraordinary array of ecosystems.

Drive to Bendigo and climb the lookout tower before having a drink at the art gallery.

The next day drive across to Mount Gambier in South Australia…some people ask “Wye?”  But we say “Why not?” After all we’re on a short break from Queensland!”

On the way to S.A. be sure to stop on the side of the road and pick fresh apples straight off a wild tree (something us folk from subtropical Brisbane have never seen!)

Of course then there’s no excuse not to drive the stunning Great Ocean Road. (You’ll think you’re in an Australian scenic calendar)

Back to Melbourne and then Brisbane and home to reality.

No worries, there’s a WorldMark shortbreak just around the corner! Just like right now, as we write this, looking over Pumicestone Passage from one of our favourite resorts, gorgeous Golden Beach, on another WorldMark short break.

Off to Torquay we go!

The first six months of this year have been full of stress and drama, and the Queen’s Birthday weekend offered an opportunity to escape from our everyday lives for a while, live a little adventure and enjoy a whole heaping of relaxation!

Off to Wyndham Resort Torquay we go!

Leaving home on the east of Melbourne, we decided to forgo sitting in the holiday traffic all the way through town and headed down the Mornington Peninsula to Sorrento to board the ferry across to Queenscliff. While the adults sat back and relaxed on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee and cake, Masters 4 & 8 entertained themselves with the on-board binoculars, hunting for Pirate Ships and shark fins. While the wind was fresh, the sun was shining and it was a brilliant start to our getaway.

The new online check-in system meant that everything was waiting for us upon arrival – just collect the map and the keys and up to our new home for the next couple of days.  We had a lovely 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor, plenty of room for the five of us.  We spent the remainder of Saturday relaxing in the resort, exploring the playground and facilities before fish and chips from the local takeaway restaurant. Sunday dawned crisp and bright, just screaming for a pre-breakfast stroll along the beach.  Perfectly situated directly in front of the hotel is Torquay Beach, and within minutes of leaving the apartment we were sharing the beach with hundreds of people who had the same idea, most of them with a puppy or two tagging along.

We spent the rest of the day exploring what the Surf Coast had to offer – filling our bellies (and a few shopping bags) at the Chocolaterie and Ice creamery, up and down many steps to watch the waves crash on the shore of Bells Beach, more steps at the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse and finally a tired return to our apartment for an easy dinner and a few games of cards. We spent the evening with a few families like us who braved the cold Melbourne night for a dip in the pool.  We weren’t brave enough to tackle the outside pool while it was only 5degrees out, but the kids and I had a ball with the others in the inside pool.

Monday was departure day but the 12 pm checkout meant that we could take our time and relax – so after a relaxed breakfast, packing our things into the car and some shopping and amazing bargains at the outlets, a tired but relaxed crew headed back home.

“Truly a Fabulous Trip” – 3 Resort Stays

This story is a little different to others I have read in Destinations magazine.  They generally started with a flight or a weekend road trip.  This one starts with a plan to spend 7 weeks camping the East Coast of Australia with 2 kids, travelling from Townsville (Far North QLD) to Melbourne (VIC) then taking in Tassie for good measure.

We decided to break the trip up along the way by staying at a few of our Wyndham resorts to recharge & take a break from the everyday fun of setting up & packing up camp.  In hindsight, that was a fabulous decision!

A Rare Girls Weekend In Melbourne

As a long-time Owner and a big fan of Wyndham, I’ve had yet another brilliant experience with this Club.

Just over the weekend I went to Melbourne for a rare girls weekend with 2 of my dear friends.  We had planned this for 9 months so our expectation was high. This trip was finally a child free weekend to see the Australian Open Tennis Championships and do some sightseeing in a city I hadn’t been to in 5 years.

Knowing that Wyndham Hotel Melbourne (VIC) was new was really exciting as I know the standard would be at the usual high rate and I wasn’t disappointed.

A Marvellous Midweek Stay In Melbourne

With my partner Glenn’s birthday approaching, we decided to use one of the fantastic benefits of Wyndham Hotel Melbourne (VIC) for a short midweek overnight city stay in November 2015.

Living in central Victoria, this only meant a short train trip to the ‘big smoke’ and no arduous travel to arrive at Wyndham Hotel Melbourne, which is located nearby in King Street.
