Commonwealth Games at Kirra Beach

Planning the trip to Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games started in April 2017. We drove up the NSW Coast and stayed at the WorldMark Resort Coffs Harbour – Terraces on the way up before arriving at Wyndham Kirra Beach to a great welcome surprise of wine & fruit.

Each day, the staff at Kirra plotted our route to the events whether it be to Carrara Stadium or out to Fred Huntley Park by bus that stopped right outside the resort. The resort, as you can see, was certainly decorated for the occasion was full of people attending the Games. The friendly volunteers made for a great Games atmosphere and very safe feeling with the police out in force.

We stayed for a week in an ocean view unit with friends visiting from Brisbane enjoying our hospitality. The weather was perfect for swimming in the ocean and pool.

On our return journey we stayed at WorldMark South Pacific Resort Port Macquarie which was, once again, great accommodation for the end of ten perfect days.

Surprise Surprise at Kirra Beach!

How could you possibly have a special family holiday with all seven of your grand kids, celebrate the Melbourne Cup, attend opening night of Chicago at the Bangalow Theatre and have your three children throw a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party? All in a week! Yes, Wyndham Kirra Beach is the ideal venue.

It started with the concept of having a week on the Gold Coast with our children, who live in Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane. They have seven children between them – our seven grandkids. We live in Sussex Inlet, three hours south of Sydney.

We booked three units at the lovely Wyndham Kirra Beach where the friendly Wyndham staff helped make our time super enjoyable. The seven small children, aged between three and eleven just love the resort pool.

Then to add cream to the cake, throw in theme parks, our own Melbourne Cup party and the chance to attend the opening night of Chicago where our singing and dancing daughter-in-law was starring.

Unbeknown to us our children had put out an invite (to anyone) via Facebook to attend a surprise 50th wedding anniversary! The date they selected was about two months ahead of the actual special anniversary, hence we didn’t have any idea of the party. People came from Sydney, Berry, Batemans Bay, Gold Coast and also included Fay’s sister from Cairns and my brother from Canada that we simply thought wanted to just join the family gang on a holiday. On our way between Sydney and the Gold Coast some of our family were able to stay at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie Wyndham resorts.

We’d stayed at all of those resorts, and guess what? We’ll return to them all too! Thanks family and thanks to WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham.

Kirra Beach: “We arrived all excited at the prospect of spending a week together”

Our family is growing fast so it is becoming difficult for us to all get together, especially since one of our sons and his family live interstate. For this reason, we planned a family holiday at Wyndham Kirra Beach well in advance. Early in 2015 we booked 4 units to accommodate my husband and myself along with our four children and their families. In April this year we arrived all excited at the prospect of spending a week together.

Want to holiday like a pro?

Kirra Beach – What to do first?!

Children at Wyndham Vacation Resorts Kirra BeachAfter our long drive from home, we made it to Wyndham Kirra Beach resort. We checked in and went up to our room. The kids were so excited but there was no time to rest, we had to go and explore.

The boys were so excited seeing the little park, mini golf and the pool; it was all so fantastic to them. What to do first?  We managed all three before we had dinner and bed. All four children talked all night about the resort before drifting off to sleep. Continue reading

The best bit about Fiji

Denarau Island, Fiji: All I can say is that it was great, fun and relaxing.

There are activities for all ages ranging from massage to swimming, drinking, eating, playing and fishing.  Most of all, the doing nothing bit, just enjoying the whole thing.  Denarau was great, the locals were very honest, accommodating as well as very welcoming. Continue reading

One of my favourites places

Over the years I have enjoyed all the WorldMark places in which I have stayed; Australia as well as the U.S., Mexico and Fiji.

Kirra Beach resort remains one of my favourite places to visit.  Being less than two hours drive from my residence I usually manage to get down there a couple of times a year.

Kirra allows me to start my morning slowly, with a walk into Coolangatta to enjoy a leisurely breakfast Continue reading

Sharing our holiday with special friends

My story starts with my husband and I taking our first  adventure by walking the Milford Track in New Zealands’ South island where we met a very special young Japanese girl  who was on her own adventure having left Japan for New Zealand without speaking a word of English.  By the time we met her on the track she was quite good with her English and we established a very good friendship. Before leaving for home, we invited her to come and visit with us if she managed to travel to Australia. Teenage turbulence – November winner!

In 2004, WorldMark posted a voucher to us, asking if we would like to spend four nights at WorldMark Kirra Beach, at a reasonable price. My husband Bruce and I, our youngest daughter Nikola and her friend Kiara booked into a Hinterland Unit which happened to be on the eighth floor. We knew about WorldMark prior to going there, as we have a friend who is a chartered accountant, who had researched the Club and he and his family joined in 2002. Continue reading
