“Ramada Paihia was pure luxury situated opposite the beach”

Everyone loves to celebrate birthdays. After 50 it is your friends that you like to celebrate your big day with. This was the case when one of my friends turned the big 70. Even though she is a born Kiwi, she had never been to the Bay of Islands. I was able to book a 3-bedroom apartment through Wyndham, at Ramada Paihia which was pure luxury situated opposite the beach.

We had hired a car from Auckland and saw wonderful sites on the way. This picturesque little town is situated near the famous Waitangi Treaty grounds and the original capital of New Zealand – Russell. It was fun giving our friend a cultural lesson in her home country.

The reception staff gave us hints of places to see, one being a drive up Mt Bledisloe which is not mentioned in the tourist guides. A new bike trail is also currently being built for those so inclined to exercise. There are many places to eat and beautiful heritage sites. This area is becoming famous as cruise ships have found it and use tenders to reach it. I have been fortunate to visit by both ways but recommend driving and staying at the resort.
