With my partner Glenn’s birthday approaching, we decided to use one of the fantastic benefits of Wyndham Hotel Melbourne (VIC) for a short midweek overnight city stay in November 2015.
Living in central Victoria, this only meant a short train trip to the ‘big smoke’ and no arduous travel to arrive at Wyndham Hotel Melbourne, which is located nearby in King Street.
I had pre-booked with Punt Tours – Luxury on the Lake for our morning entertainment, with the punt tour meandering throughout the ornamental lake of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. We definitely received our money’s worth with our esteemed guide providing an extensive range of information about the ornamental lake and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
I would thoroughly recommend a punt tour, especially for Valentine’s Day or a special occasion.
After a short walk around the gardens, we then boarded the next tram to sample the culinary delights of Jin Dumpling & Noodle House, 172 Little Bourke Street, Chinatown district.
Back to Wyndham Hotel Melbourne to formally check in and upon informing our helpful concierge that it was Glenn’s birthday, we were provided with a lovely bottle of red wine to enjoy.
Due to the unpredictable weather for the day, we disbanded our plans for a horse and carriage ride, and other outdoor type activities, pending these for our next midweek Melbourne trip.
Nearby we checked out some local bar/restaurant for a few beverages, and then strolled to the Southbank Promenade where we located the food court with every conceivable choice of menu. A few entrée sizes later, we were feasted and set off for the Crown Melbourne casino to seek our fortune.
As we did not win or lose any fortune, we returned to the cosy comfort of Wyndham Hotel Melbourne for a peaceful rest and a well-earned sleep in.
The next day, after our short train travel we are back home, rejuvenated and ready to plan the next Midweek Melbourne adventure and other exciting endeavours further afield.
