We recently returned from the most fantastic holiday we have had since we became Owners in 2010.
We spent 10 nights at Wyndham Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand, June 2014.
The lake itself is spectacular and when the surrounding mountains are crowned with snow it’s breathtaking.
We utilised the resort mountain bikes a couple of times to ride on the excellent bike tracks around the lake. It was great to sink into the luxurious hot pool back at the resort as a reward for our exertions, the air outside might have been 7° but the temperature of the hot pool was 37° (perfect).
On our last day we decided to complete our New Zealand adventure by walking the 1300m high track to Roys Peak (above Lake Wanaka). The 11km (return) walk up the mountain took us into the snow line and the 360° view at the peak made the 4 hour walk to the top absolutely worthwhile.
The friendly, helpful staff at Wanaka made our stay a joy and the 3-Bedroom Deluxe unit with its ‘wood burning’ (gas) fire meant coming ‘home’ each chilly evening was a delight. We would highly recommend visiting Wanaka at this time of the year.
