Weekend Getaways at Rotorua NZ for Any Type of Traveller!

Tandem bungee jumping in Taupo!

I have recently experienced two very different weekends at WorldMark Resort Rotorua (North Island, New Zealand).  The first was an adrenalin filled two days with my niece who was visiting from Wales and the second was a relaxing weekend catching up with a friend from Auckland.  Accommodation at the WorldMark Resort in Rotorua made both weekends extra special – the apartments were warm, well maintained and spacious and the staff friendly and helpful.  They even had the travel blanket I had left behind on the earlier visit ready for me to pick up!

We drove to Rotorua from Wellington to show our niece some of the scenery and stopped for a bungee in Taupo! My niece wouldn’t do it alone – I couldn’t let her miss out – so we went tandem accompanied by much screaming!  Next stop: Huka Falls where we walked the scenic path at the top then took the Huka Jet for a close up view of the falls with some jet boating thrills along the way.  We arrived at WorldMark Resort Rotorua and took advantage of the takeaway pizza option from the onsite Club Cafe for dinner at the apartment.

Next morning, we took a white water rafting trip on the Kaituna River – more screaming and heart pumping action! Continuing with the adrenalin theme in the afternoon, we took the gondola and luge followed by a walk around Rainbow Springs and the Big Splash Ride.  On our final morning, we were up early to check out and head for Waitomo and a Black Water Rafting adventure before our return drive to Wellington.

My next weekend at Rotorua couldn’t have been more different.  A friend from Auckland drove to meet me and I flew from Wellington to Rotorua.  We enjoyed dinner at the Club Café restaurant, a leisurely start to the weekend. Rotorua has a number of excellent cafes and we sampled a few during the weekend, including Fat Dog and Relish.  We walked some of the trails in the Redwoods before enjoying a relaxing massage at the Polynesian Spa and a soak in the thermal pools watching the sunset and the lights of Rotorua.

On our second day we began with a relaxed breakfast on the apartment terrace before visiting Wai-O-Tapu for a stroll around the thermal valley followed by a late lunch.  My friend dropped me at the airport for my flight home while she drove back to Auckland.

The WorldMark Resort Rotorua resort provided the ideal venue for a catch up and recharge.  We are already planning our next weekend away and this time we will take the men with us.
