Exploring Wanaka

Lake Wanaka

Last October 2011 we had the great opportunity to stay for a week at Wyndham Wanaka. My wife Rita, my sister Ann and her husband Erik arrived at the resort to enjoy a week in our two bedroom accommodation.

At the reception we were greeted by a cheery Danielle who provided us with all the information regarding the facilities, including Rafters Restaurant.  Danielle then escorted us to our room, which thrilled us because it overlooked the pool, which looked wonderful.  It also gave us the opportunity of seeing the enjoyment of the kids and adults using the slide into the pool.

We had our first dinner at the Rafters Restaurant with its first class menu, and it was also a way of meeting other holidaymakers who were making the most of the fine food.  During our stay we enjoyed many meals at Rafters.

Danielle & Rita at Wanaka Festival

The Wanaka Festival was on and we explored all of the stalls and exhibitions in beautiful weather.  We were lucky to meet Danielle there and spend a little time with her again.  The Festival procession was so very colourful.

There was so much to do.  A drive to Treble Cone and see all of the rock climbers.  Also we saw such interesting things as the Toy and Transport Museum, Puzzling World and the unique Cinema Paradiso.

From our WorldMark Resort it was easy to enjoy walking around the banks of beautiful Lake Wanaka and take in the background scenery of the mountains still covered in snow – so peaceful and pleasing to the eye.

A little bit of trivia!!  After we had firstly settled in we were asked if the “chicken” was good.  As we did not have chicken for lunch we looked at each other, being rather confused.
Then, as our Aussie ears tuned in, we realised that it was “check in “.

The check in and the whole WorldMark week were wonderful and we look forward to returning to enjoy the same again.
