My Fiji family

Ever since we became Owners I have wanted to take my family to Fiji, finally in July after not having been there for 20 years,  I returned to Fiji for my 28th visit.  My husband, James, and son, Jacob, had never been but as I spent a lot of my childhood and teenage years visiting Fiji, I longed to be able to take my family to see what they had heard so much about and to meet my “Fiji family”.  On my first visit to Fiji in 1968 at the age of 5 I had met a man who became a family friend and who would one day marry and have a daughter he would name after me, my Yaca (Yatha) or name-sake.

Thanks to our Wyndham Credits we were able to book a beachfront one bedroom apartment at Denarau, and I looked forward to the day when my Yaca or name sake would come from Suva with her family to visit.  Being a Wyndham Owner means the resort is home away from home and our friends were able to come to visit for the day, we could share a meal together and enjoy the surroundings, just as we would at our permanent home.

They last time I saw her my Yaca was only 16 now she a teacher, a wife and the mother of four children.  The children all had a wonderful time getting to know each other and after no time were heading off down to the pool to continue the fun, with the adults able to keep watch from close by whilst getting acquainted and catching up on a lot of missed years.

The resort facilities are great, I could barely get Jacob out of the pool each day and we all cheered for our favourites in the frog races, we enjoyed both the Fijian lovo and meke night as well as the Polynesian night being entertained and enjoying a great variety of food.  We hardly felt a need to leave the resort.

We are already planning our next trip back and it looks like my family has now caught the Fiji bug, just like me!

  1. We love Denarau Island, we have been twice now and my family love going there, hoping to go again this year.
Last time we were there Kula cooked us a beautiful Fijian meal in our unit. We were spoilt. The rice was the best I have ever tried. We had our Kava ceremony and it was a wonderful week.
