Over the years of raising a family on a small income, the longest time my wife, Bree, and I had gone away alone together to a motel or Resort style destination was for 2 or 3 nights. In recent years we had talked about planning a holiday for our 25th wedding anniversary, especially knowing all our kids were becoming fully independent.
In Jan this year our silver anniversary came and went but no holiday. Although we had purchased our first lot of WorldMark Credits in readiness, we used some for our daughter’s honeymoon to Fiji which happened to be around the time of our anniversary – so no chance to get away. Then when my wife’s 50th birthday was due in July, we decide it was time.
As Melbourne’s winter is often cold and wet we decided to escape to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. At short notice we booked a week’s accommodation at Golden Beach. It was also our first flight together since the children were born, which added to the excitement. I loved the reaction of my wife Bree, as we drove up in the hire car and had our first look at the resort. This was going to be one special week. Walking inside we were greeted by Karen, one of the Wyndham staff, and in learning that it was our first time using our Credits, she went out of her way to ensure that all our questions and needs were met.
Every day was an adventure deciding what we would do, whether siting on the beach soaking in the sun, going for walks, shopping, 4 wheel drives to Fraser Island, UnderWater World, trips to a village market or a Devonshire tea celebrating my wife’s birthday at Montville in Queensland’s Hinterland, with panoramic views from mountains all the way back to the coast.
Bree kept saying she didn’t want to leave. No doubt now that we are members with Wyndham Resorts this will be just the first of many such memorable holidays.
